Thirsty Sound, Queensland experiences some of the nation’s most dramatic tides — rising and falling by up to nine metres. At high tide, the river expands into broad sweeps of brown water, concealing its intricate textures beneath the surface. But as the sea retreats, the landscape unveils its quiet artistry.

With the ebbing tide, an extraordinary transformation unfolds. What moments ago appeared as a muted expanse becomes a living canvas — tidal flats etched with channels, pools, and fine lines sculpted by water’s movement and gravity’s pull.

Subtle gradients of sand and silt merge with the soft reflections of sky, forming shifting layers of tone and form that change with every minute of light. 

Viewed from above, each image becomes a singular composition. The tide, the angle of the sun, even the faintest haze in the air — all converge to create something unrepeatable.

Only one artwork will ever be released of this piece — a tribute to the brief moment this landscape revealed itself before being reclaimed by the returning tide.
