With the highest tides on Australia's east coast (up to 9 metres), the Styx River merges into broad sweeps of brown water, its textures hidden beneath the surface. But as the sea retreats, the landscape reveals its true artistry.
When the tide drops, an extraordinary transformation takes place. What was once a flat expanse becomes a living canvas — tidal flats etched with winding channels, pools, and intricate lines shaped by the flow of water and the pull of gravity.
Subtle gradients of sand and silt merge with the soft reflections of sky, creating layers of tone and form that shift with every minute of light. The patterns are fluid yet precise — as if the ocean itself were drawing with deliberate motion.
Each image captured from the air becomes a one-off composition. The tide, the angle of the sun, even the faintest haze in the atmosphere — all combine to paint something unique. No two moments are ever the same.
Only one artwork will be released of this piece — a tribute to the one moment this landscape revealed itself before the tide returned.
